Dr. Krys Hunter began her clinical career at Atascadero State Hospital working with the Sexually Violent Predator and Mentally Disordered Sexual Offender patients. After coming to the conclusion that many of these violent offenses may have been avoided if the offenders had been treated as adolescents, Dr. Hunter went to work at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation-Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) with the Sexual Behavior Treatment Program. For the next 5-plus years, she worked as a clinician providing direct services to the youth adjudicated for sexual offenses at DJJ, and then 12-years as a Supervising Psychologist and Sex-Offender Treatment Program Coordinator. Now retired from State service, Dr. Hunter has a private forensic practice performing mental health, competency, and risk to reoffend for the San Joaquin County Superior Court, as well as for private attorneys. Additionally, Dr. Hunter provides Clinical Supervision to unlicensed clinicians, interns, and students working for a community-based sex-offender treatment program.
